Welcome to GetFrostbite.net

Established in 1985 as a wholesale distributor of products for the construction and logging industries, WIndy Ridge Corporation began offering deep cryogenic treatment of metals in 1995. Our equipment includes a 9,000 gallon liquid nitrogen tank and two computer controlled treatment chambers made by Cryogenics International. Each chamber is 30" x 30" x 60" inside.

Our customers include large industrial facilities such as the Velcro factory in Manchester, NH and Pine Tree Power in Tamworth, NH, as well as motorsports enthusiasts, target shooters, and brass musical instrument owners. We also cold treat our Frostbite brand of saw chain, bars, sprockets, and files.

The process takes three days: slow cooling to minus 320 degrees Fahrenheit, "soaking" at that temperature, and slow warming to room temperature.

Deep Cryogenic Treatment::

  • Removes thermal and mechanical stresses from metal parts.
  • Makes steel finer grained, therefore tougher and more wear resistant.
  • Converts retained austenite to martensite, a harder, stronger compound.
  • Quadruples the life of piston rings.
  • Makes rifles shoot more accurately - due to the removal of thermal stresses in the barrel.
  • Toughens transmissions and differentials - used by virtually all NASCAR racers.
  • Extends the useful life of vane type hydraulic pumps by as much as 12 times (1200%).
  • Increases cooling ratio to improve disc brake performance and prevent warping of rotors.

We charge $4 a pound for the service, with a $35 minimum. Discounts are available on large batches.
